Privacy Policy
My Dreams lets you record dreams by voice or text, receive an AI-generated reflective interpretation, and — on a paid plan — generate a short animated video from a dream. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. Dream content is personal and sometimes sensitive, and we treat it with elevated care.
1. The data we collect
Data you provide
- Dream content — the text of your dreams, their titles, dates, and whether each was a night sleep or a nap.
- Voice recordings (optional) — if you capture a dream by voice. By default, transcription happens on your device and the audio is not sent to us. Cloud transcription, if offered, is an explicit opt-in.
- Account information — if you create an account: your email address, first/last name, and an authentication credential managed by our identity provider (we never see your raw password).
- Support communications — anything you send us by email.
Data created or collected automatically
- AI interpretations and generated videos tied to your dreams.
- Subscription & usage data — your plan, status, renewal/expiry, and your 30-day allowance counters (dreams and videos used).
- Technical & diagnostic data— app version, device/OS type, crash reports, and privacy-safe analytics events (e.g. “dream created”, “paywall viewed”). These never contain your dream content.
2. Where your dreams are stored
- Without an account, your dreams are stored only on your device. They are not uploaded to us and are lost if you uninstall the app or switch devices.
- With an account, your dreams are stored on our servers (Amazon Web Services). When you first create an account, dreams previously stored on your device are uploaded so you can keep them.
- Generated videos are a paid, account-only feature and are stored on our servers, delivered to you over short-lived secure links.
3. Third-party AI and your explicit consent
To interpret your dreams and generate videos, we send the relevant dream content to third-party AI providers acting as our processors. We ask for your explicit consent before any dream text or audio is sent to a third-party AI provider, and you can decline (interpretation and video features will then be unavailable). The categories of provider are:
- Language-model provider — to generate the written interpretation.
- Content-moderation provider — to run the safety checks described below.
- Video-generation provider — to create the animated clip (paid tiers).
- Speech-to-text provider — only if you opt in to cloud transcription.
We do not sell your data and do not share dream content for advertising. We maintain data-processing agreements with our providers and choose providers that do not train their models on your content where that option is available. 4. How we use your data
- To provide the core features: storing dreams, generating interpretations and videos, and syncing across your account.
- To enforce plan allowances and process subscriptions (via our payment and subscription providers and the app stores).
- To run safety checks on content submitted for video generation.
- To diagnose crashes, improve reliability, and understand (in aggregate) how features are used.
- To respond to your support requests and meet legal obligations.
Our legal bases (where GDPR/UK GDPR applies) are your consent (for AI processing and optional cloud transcription), performance of a contract (providing the service you signed up for), and our legitimate interests (security, debugging, preventing abuse).
5. AI interpretations are not advice
Interpretations are generated by AI for self-reflection and entertainment only. They are not medical, psychological, diagnostic, or predictive advice, and should not be relied on as such. If dream content suggests self-harm or a crisis, the app responds with supportive information and links to resources rather than a normal interpretation; it does not provide clinical care.
6. AI-generated videos, immutability, and safety
- Videos are AI-generated and labeled as such in the app.
- Each dream can have at most one video, and there is no regeneration.
- Once a dream is saved (“sealed”), its text is immutable.
- Before any video is generated, the dream text passes through an automated safety gate. Content in prohibited categories (e.g. graphic violence, sexual content) is declined for video — your dream text is still saved and interpreted. A declined video is not charged against your allowance.
7. Sharing and disclosure
We share data only with: the AI processors above; our cloud infrastructure provider (AWS); our subscription/receipt provider (RevenueCat) and the Apple App Store / Google Play for billing; crash and analytics tooling; and authorities where required by law. We do not sell personal data.
8. Data retention
We keep account-linked dreams, interpretations, and videos until you delete them or close your account. Device-only dreams persist until you delete them or uninstall. Diagnostic data is retained for a limited period. Some logs are kept for security and debugging (these do not contain dream text — we log identifiers and hashes, not content). 9. Your rights and choices
- Access & export — request a copy of your data; the app provides an in-app export of your account data.
- Deletion — delete individual dreams or videos in the app, or delete your entire account, which erases your dreams, videos, and account record (including from storage and our identity provider).
- Withdraw consent — turn off AI processing / cloud transcription at any time (these features then stop working).
- GDPR/UK GDPR — rights to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and to object; and to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority.
- CCPA/CPRA (California)— rights to know, delete, and correct, and to limit use of sensitive information. We do not “sell” or “share” your personal information as those terms are defined.

10. Security
We use encryption in transit and at rest, least-privilege access controls, private storage with short-lived signed links for videos, and we keep third-party API keys out of the app. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your data.
11. International transfers
Your data may be processed in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) for these transfers. [Confirm hosting region(s) and transfer mechanism.]
12. Children
My Dreams is intended for users aged 16 and older. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under the minimum age. If you believe a minor has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We will post the new version here with an updated effective date and, for material changes, notify you in the app.
